Your Primary Responsibilities as a CEO
As your business grows and you are able to hire managers and executives to handle the day-to-day operations of your company, you may feel a bit like you have no path. You are no longer responsible for completing the company’s financials and your operations manager is taking great care of your production. What do you do? Well, your job can now be directing the company. These are tasks you, as a CEO, need to focus on as your business grows.
Focus on Networking
As your daily duties decrease, you can spend more time networking. Create relationships with your peers, associates and other outside the company who make key decisions in their companies. You can begin your networking journey by joining industry organizations and associations. You may also join entrepreneurial groups. Your focus is to build internal and external relationships. Spend at least a few days each month getting together with like-minded individuals.
Clarify and Solidify Your Company Vision
You have started your company on its course. You probably used your business plan to make the majority of your decisions thus far. Now, it is time to develop, clarify and solidify your company vision. You need to define your company goals and share them with everyone in your organization. Your vision can then be developed into a strategic plan with the help of your management and executive teams. You need to define your company’s purpose and get your stakeholders on board.
Search For and Fill Holes
As your cash flow increases, you can reinvest into your company. Your initial reinvestments should involve filling holes in your staff and infrastructure. For example, you may start hiring employees and managers and setting up departments for areas that were handled adequately by current staff in the past. You should also pursue relationships with financial institutions so you can secure financing sources when the need arises. Develop strategic partnerships with your supply chain, vendors and other stakeholders. You may even find new advisors and contract professional services, such as cleaning services.
Finally, you should fill holes in your company’s resources. This is the time to investigate new technology, real estate and other resources you need now or want to upgrade in the future.
Focus on Feedback
Many managers and executives forget to request feedback from those around them. However, when you ask for feedback, your employees feel as if their opinions and feelings really matter. You can request information from your vendors and clients as well. In fact, customers are great sources of feedback, and their feedback can result in online reviews that produce sales increases
Just because you have filled all your executive management positions, does not mean that your job as a CEO is done. In fact, now you can focus on making your company soar.
